PULLING OUT

SYNOPSIS:

"Pulling Out" is a story of the pressure and surmountable guilt that comes when one devoted half of a relationship gives up their life for the other. We follow Colin and Clare as they move from New York to LA in pursuit of Clare’s dream job and Colin’s dream of remaining with Clare no matter what sacrifice he must make.

MISSION:

"Pulling Out," is a small film that deals with the pressure and responsibility that comes when one member of a couple gives up their life in order to be with the other.

The film follows a couple’s journey from New York to Los Angeles, mixing in flashbacks to keep the pace quick and the setting from not becoming monotonous.

The script of 92 pages is a shell. It gets us from point A to point B while exploring all of the angles needed to make the film’s message apparent.

Beyond that, I plan to give the actors freedom to improvise regarding whatever we may come across as we go.

You may notice as you progress through the script that it is verbally blunt as well as sexually raw. I believe that the only way to make my audience really know these characters is to not pull any punches. I want my characters to act the way they would. The camera should never shy away.

Finally, I will shoot this on film. While many first time filmmakers are running to digital video to save money, in my vision, "Pulling Out" is a film. Shooting on video will give the false impression that this film is a travelogue, rather than what it really is, a character study and commentary on the psychology of a real relationship.

For a better thematic and tonal understanding of the film please listen to the original song, "Pulling Out," with lyrics by Jason Koffeman and music by Denver Casado.
